Widgets and dashboards

Symptom Cause
A widget is empty on the dashboard but works in Search The dashboard time range filters it. Widen the range, or clear the widget's time column.
Some widgets follow the time range and others don't Only widgets with a time column are filtered. The red clock icon marks the ones without one.
Edit Chart is disabled The widget has no data. Fix the time column or the range first.
Numbers are lower than expected Your SQL filters time and you nominated that column as the time column, so the filters stack. Or a bar limit dropped the remaining bars. Or a pivot hit its column cap.
The chart's bars changed after I chose Ascending With Ascending, the bar limit keeps the smallest bars.
I edited the query, but the dashboard didn't change Widgets are copies. Edits never flow between the query and the dashboard.
My dashboard isn't in the Add to dashboard list The list shows only dashboards you created. Select Make a copy on someone else's dashboard first.
A filter column is missing Filters offer only the columns returned by every widget's query.
The preview doesn't match the created widget The preview is computed locally from sample rows. Trust the widget.
Chart cannot be displayed The chart has more than 1,500 data points. Limit the bars or coarsen the grouping.
Refresh is greyed out Someone refreshed this dashboard in the last hour.
Last updated changed but nobody refreshed A scheduled email re-ran the widget queries.
Sharing failed One of the private queries behind the widgets can't be shared by you.

Search and notebooks

Symptom Cause
My SQL disappeared when I switched the data type By design: switching discards the SQL and the prompt.
Analytics SQL fails with an odd error Analytics is PostgreSQL. Read the end of the PG Query syntax error message. Avoid a literal %.
A notebook's Save is disabled for no visible reason A cell reference is broken, usually because a cell was renamed.
A cell's Run Query is disabled A cell it references hasn't been run yet in this session.
A notebook lost all its cells Its data type was switched. Reload the page instead of saving.
